Son Of Saturn
In the year 1982, under the Autumn equinox, a beam of light was laid into a vessel somewhere in the indigenous lands of Oklahoma. Frequently splitting his seemingly linear time between California and Kansas City, as a result of his parents separation, our subject became thirsty for knowledge at a young age. By the time he had spent 13 full years among us, he had immersed himself in the culture of the underground. This meant skating, punk rock, graffiti, and a new fondness for alcohol and drugs. It wasn’t until a year later that his love for spray cans and foot races with authority that he discovered a love for hip-hop. In these first wondrous years, he would listen to the likes of Hieroglyphics, Mob Deep, Gangstarr, and Freestyle Fellowship. After meeting Negro Scoe, and helping to start the Kansas City chapter of ‘Hip-hop Addicts’ he would come to find a name for himself in the underground scene, thus Son of Saturn came into existence.
After his seemingly endless attempts at altering his perception of reality through chemicals and herbs, he officially released his first album ‘Real Slap in the Face’ in 2006, followed by ‘Single Speak Oddities’ a year later. Both were raw and powerful forms of expression, and consisted of mostly poems, battle rap, and strange spoken word pieces. His content ranged from quantum physics to the occult, fringe science, and politics, and as time progressed it became startlingly clear that this emcee had something big to say. With the 2009 release of ‘The Madness & the Mahakaruna’ came abstinence from substance, and an emphasis on meditation and spirituality both in the cuts on the album, and in Son of Saturn’s personal life. This same year would see the birth of Revolt Motion, a record label founded by Son of Saturn and his friend and fellow emcee known as Morbski aka Naja Gemini, or Amun Morb. 2009 would also see the birth of the collaborative effort known as Akashik Ancestorz, a group that would come to redefine “conscious hip-hop”, including Son of Saturn, Morbski, who were later joined by Life Scientist, and YedidYah Ben Sion.
Up to the present we sentients have been blessed with 4 more albums including: Apotheosis (2010), The “7”EP which was recorded in Denmark (2011), Thesis (2011) and Knowledge of Self which was released in January, 2012. Currently, all of those who follow Son of Saturn are eagerly, if not anxiously, awaiting the August 15th release of “The Blackhole Speakeasy”, which has been promoted through pseudo-propaganda like posts over the internet, offering a small taste of what is to come, yet giving no clear idea of just how big of a transformation will be witnessed upon listening.
